Music at Wellfield Junior School
Pupils at Wellfield Junior School experience a rich and varied music curriculum, through whole class music lessons, singing assemblies, whole class instrumental projects run by Trafford Music service, visiting musicians, extra-curricular choir and peripatetic instrumental lessons.
The curriculum follows a varied scheme using a blend of the Charanga music scheme, BBC Ten Pieces and Topic linked songs and activities. These different resources allow the children to build and develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of the key interrelated concepts of music year on year following on from their time in KS1.
Weekly singing sessions give children the feeling of community and are closely linked to current events and themes. In Year 4 all the children participate in a whole class 10 week instrumental project run by Trafford Music Service and will learn the samba drum in the Summer Term, culminating in the annual ExTraffordganza concert involving many schools across the borough and a school based performance just for parents.
Listening and appraising music is an important aspect of the music curriculum. The children continue to develop their appreciation of music, allowing them to become familiar with the different sounds instruments make, developing their emotional response to music and allowing them to form opinions about which styles they have a preference to and why.
